Use Your Vision Insurance at 1-800 Contacts →

Most people assume using vision insurance means going in person. That was true once. It isn’t anymore.

1-800 Contacts accepts vision insurance — in-network and out-of-network — and handles the billing online, at checkout, without a waiting room. Here’s exactly how it works and how much you can save.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network: What’s the Difference

In-network means 1-800 Contacts bills your insurance directly. You enter your plan info, they look up your benefits, and your discount is applied at checkout automatically. No forms, no reimbursement waiting period, no hassle.

Out-of-network means you pay upfront, then submit a claim to your insurer for reimbursement afterward. A little more work — but still worth doing.

Your Plan How It Works Avg. Savings
Davis Vision In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
Blue View Vision In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
Anthem In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
United Healthcare In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
Superior Vision In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
Spectera In-network — billed directly at checkout ~$130
VSP Out-of-network — pay first, claim reimbursement ~$105
EyeMed Out-of-network — pay first, claim reimbursement ~$105
Aetna Out-of-network — pay first, claim reimbursement ~$105
Humana Out-of-network — pay first, claim reimbursement ~$105

Don’t see your plan? It’s worth checking anyway. 1-800 Contacts works with a wide range of providers and the lookup tool at checkout will tell you where you stand.

How to Use It at Checkout

For in-network plans, the process is straightforward: enter your insurance information during checkout, 1-800 Contacts verifies your benefits in real time, and the discount comes off your total before you pay. You don’t need to do anything afterward.

For out-of-network plans: pay for your order, then download your order invoice from your account and submit it to your insurer as a reimbursement claim. Your insurer will send you a check or apply the credit to your account. The average out-of-network reimbursement is around $105.

One rule to know: Vision insurance cannot be combined with the new customer discount, promo codes, or price match. If your insurance benefit is larger than the discount — use the insurance. If you’re a first-time customer with a modest order, run the math both ways.

What Your Plan Likely Covers

Most vision plans follow a similar structure. Every 12 months: a contact lens allowance and an eye exam. Every 24 months: frames. The specific dollar amounts vary by plan, but using your allowance at 1-800 Contacts is the same as using it anywhere else in their network — your benefits don’t change just because you’re buying online.

If your prescription is expired, 1-800 Contacts also offers an online vision exam for $20 that can get you a renewed prescription in about 24 hours. Some insurance plans cover the exam too — check your benefits before paying out of pocket.

Can You Stack Insurance With FSA/HSA?

Yes. If your insurance doesn’t cover the full order — or if you have out-of-pocket costs after the benefit is applied — you can pay the remainder with your FSA or HSA card. This is a legitimate and smart way to stretch both benefits on the same order.

Your vision benefits don’t expire on their own timetable. Use them here.
