About Cromulent Coupons
The word “cromulent” is first voiced by Elizabeth Hoover, a second grade teacher at Springfield Elementary in The Simpsons.
The genesis of formation of “acceptable” was a nonce word that entered the lexicon of many Simpsons-loving etymologists through The Simpsons episode “Lisa the Iconoclast” on February 18th, 1996.
So, why did we pick this word to talk about coupons?
I believe everyone deserves access to perfectly valid ways to save money on their everyday purchases.
And there’s lots of crappy spammy sites out there with decidedly UNcromulent deals and codes.
Our Mission
At Cromulent Coupons, we’re dedicated to making savings accessible and straightforward. No gimmicks, no confusing terms – just codes that help you keep more money in your pocket.
Yes, I will try to make this profitable, so expect a few ads here and there.
A Personal Journey
Growing up in the Midwest, I learned early on about the importance of making every dollar count. I played a lot of video games. I mean, it was 20 degrees below zero outside in the winter. Going outside had serious health implications unless you spent 20 minutes putting on your snowsuit, moonboots, snowmobile gloves, and facemask.
We didn’t have tons of money and learned that if I wanted a new video game, I’d need to be creative about how to get it.
One time, Kool-aid, my go to drink of choice at age 9, had a contest. Collect a non-cromulent number of “proof of purchase” stamps and you can get a Kool-aid man video game.
I drank A LOT of kool-aid to get that game. I clipped a LOT of proof of purchases.
6-8 weeks after I sent in my codes, I got my game. I wasted no time and started playing. It was not very good. I mean, I thought it was great because there was a way to make the Kool-aid man break through the wall, but that was really about all the fun you could have with this game.
But, what I learned in all of this, was that companies would give you something if you did what they wanted. I started looking at sweepstakes, coupon clipping, all sorts of decidedly nerdy things. But I was a bit fascinated with all the variations. I was comparing grocery store circulars, clipping coupons, and searching for the best deals on everything from school supplies to household essentials. The kitchen table often transformed into a command center for our family’s savings strategy, with newspaper inserts spread out as we planned our shopping trips.
When I was doing that, I didn’t think I’d have a career where I’d be creating pivot tables on performance of various couponing strategies with computer manufacturers when I was in my 30’s, but it did pay the bills.
And through my job, I learned a lot about why advertisers use coupons, why they hate coupons, and why they can’t do without them. They are basically crack cocaine for some companies and other companies see them as the branding antichrist.
